The CREDI philosophy towards development on the Cuyuna Range is broad-scale, asset based and long term. The organization's board members and its Executive Director do not believe that funding sustainable economic development results from subsidized programs driven solely by social goals or solely by economic goals, but rather collaborative efforts, shared by all businesses and governmental units.
CREDI's past successes have provided nearly 115 million dollars of business investment to the Cuyuna Range. There are over 3.1 million in pending projects as of January, 2002. These projects will bring an estimated 300 new jobs to the area in the next two years. With CREDI's assistance, over $2.5,000,000 in Grants, and over 1100 jobs have been newly added or retained in the area.
The annual CREDI fundraising program runs August through December. Programs for the new year are reviewed by staff and positioned within the budget in order of priority. The 2002 fundraising program consists of a direct mail effort to all past contributors, all Cuyuna Range city and township governmental units, Crow Wing County, the State of Minnesota, and grant givers when available.
Over the past four years, severe reductions in contributions have reduced some programming activity, so the organization consistently seeks tax deductible donations.
CREDI annually reviews the availability of grants for specific purposes. However, less than ten of the 700 foundations in Minnesota claim to provide financial assistance for economic and community development programs in greater Minnesota, but their track record is not as good as the text in their promotional brochure.
This is why it is critical for Funding at this time. With the limited funding and limited time, the successes by this organization result from a staff of one, with the Executive Director available four days a week and "on-call" for any economic and community development activity affecting the Cuyuna Range.
Communities that have adopted economic development strategies without regard to the coinciding, long-term environmental or social implications have found their communities unable to sustain the development once natural resources have been depleted, environmental damage has occurred, or industrial facilities have been closed. This has never been the case for CREDI or the Cuyuna Range.
CREDI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Tax deductible donations of any level are gladly accepted.
